Enhancing adoption of technology as a means to tackle climate change
As part of CeGED’s commitment to promoting a green economy in developing countries, we have initiated a project to recycle computers from the UK to Malawi. This initiative aims to address two key challenges: reducing electronic waste and empowering young people in Malawi through access to technology.
The project aligns with CeGED’s climate change goals by promoting the reuse of valuable materials, reducing the need for new resource extraction, and minimizing the environmental footprint of electronic waste. Recycling computers helps mitigate the harmful effects of e-waste, which often contains toxic components that can harm both the environment and human health if improperly disposed of.
By providing young Malawians with access to affordable, refurbished computers, this project also addresses the digital divide, fostering digital literacy and skill development among the youth. These skills are crucial for creating future innovators who can contribute to sustainable solutions and the green economy in Malawi. The project supports Malawi’s development goals by enhancing educational opportunities, promoting green practices, and helping to bridge the gap between environmental sustainability and socio-economic development.
Through this initiative, CeGED aims to create a circular economy, where the lifecycle of electronic devices is extended, supporting climate resilience and offering hope for a more sustainable future in Malawi.
